Ambulance crashes on 999 call

An ambulance crashed in Burntwood on Thursday 22nd July at about 5.00pm while responding to a 999 call to a nine year old boy who had been hit by a car.
The crash occurred in Morley Road as the ambulance was on its way to treat the boy who had run into the road in Norton Lane.
A white van and black Vauxhall Astra were also involved.
The driver of the car was removed from his vehicle and placed on a spinal board while the two occupants of the van refused treatment.
The boy in Norton Lane was treated for cuts and bruises at hospital.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “The first ambulance was responding to a 999 call on full emergency lights and two-tone sirens. A second ambulance was immediately dispatched to attend this incident.
“On arrival at the scene attending crews found an ambulance, a van and a car that had been involved in a collision.
“The ambulance crew, two men in their 30s and 40s, were treated on scene by colleagues; one suffered an abdominal injury and the other sustained minor injuries. Both were transferred to Stafford District Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
“The occupants of the van, two men in their 30s and 60s, were assessed on scene but declined hospital treatment.
“The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board as a precaution. Whilst being conveyed to hospital by ambulance, the man declined further treatment and subsequently did not attend hospital.
“The Trust takes any incident involving an emergency vehicle whilst responding to a 999 call very seriously and will work closely with the police to establish exactly what happened.”
